Walking Mad

Canadian Premiere

Choreography: Johan Inger (Sweden)
Music: Maurice Ravel, Bolero

Johan Inger, formerly Artistic Director of Cullberg Ballet and a member of the Royal Swedish Ballet and Netherlands Dance Theatre (NDT), has created a breathtaking work for nine dancers that is set to Ravel’s Bolero and reflects Socrates belief that “our greatest blessings come to us by way of madness.” Choreographed for Netherlands Dance Theatre in 2001, Inger received the Lucas Hoving Award (Dutch) for best production and the Danza & Danza Award for this ballet.

Choreography: Aszure Barton (Canada / NYC)

One of Canada’s leading choreographers, Aszure Barton has created for Mikhail Baryshnikov, The National Ballet of Canada, American Ballet Theater, Sydney Dance Company, NDT, The Martha Graham Dance Company and Hubbard Street Dance. The New York Times calls Barton’s work “a rare instance of a dance that feels as if it were plucked straight from the choreographer’s extremely specific imagination and set, full-grown onstage…full of surprise and humor, emotion and pain.”
